Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen have rejected a proposal from policy experts Ross Garnaut and Rod Sims for a carbon tax to build green exports and make Australia a clean energy superpower.
Asked by independent teal MP Sophie Scamps whether the government favoured Professor Garnaut and Professor Sims’ “carbon solutions levy”, Dr Chalmers told parliament the government was on board for cleaner energy but not the new tax.
