The energy market operator remains alert to the risk of power shortages in NSW and Queensland as more 40-degree temperatures are expected through the weekend and a north-south divide in grid pricing sets in.

The Australian Energy Market Operator has flagged gaps in minimum reserves – the amount by which available capacity must exceed forecast demand to cope with unexpected surges in demand – in NSW on Thursday and Friday afternoon and Queensland on Saturday evening.
