Residents and businesses near Narrabeen Lagoon were told to evacuate late on Tuesday after the torrential rain and wild winds that hammered Sydney’s south-west moved to the northern beaches.

Motorists on Roseville Bridge were trapped in floodwaters and a girls’ school in Manly Vale was evacuated.
