Labor hits pause on Illawarra offshore wind

The future of a NSW offshore wind zone is in limbo after the only remaining bidder got cold feet, leading analysts to warn that foreign capital players will shy away from investing in renewable energy projects amid rising political risk.

US-owned renewables operator BlueFloat Energy asked the Albanese government to pause its application for the troubled Illawarra project until after the election, Energy Minister Chris Bowen said on Friday, casting new doubts over the development’s future.
