Oil boss lashes reports of side deals at COP28

Dubai | United Arab Emirates oil boss and climate envoy Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber has lashed out at reports he used diplomatic meetings to push for his company’s commercial interests and business deals, as he tried to get his COP28 presidency back on the front foot.

But Dr al-Jaber, who is holding the reins at the two-week climate summit of 198 countries in Dubai, did underscore the need for governments to be “pragmatic” and “practical” in tackling climate change, rather than set unrealistic ambitions.
