The second Sustainability Leaders list – an initiative of The Australian Financial Review and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) – celebrates those organisations investing in sustainable innovations that are leading to environmental and social benefits alongside business outcomes.

At BCG, we recently reviewed 47,000 sustainability announcements by publicly listed companies worldwide to learn which created value and why. Those that created the most value addressed material issues for the company’s core business, and described how the sustainability initiative could create strategic advantage and financial upside for the company. Conversely, companies that made many announcements that were light on business relevance destroyed value.
