Gas companies ask for seat at the subsidy table

Australia’s gas producers say Labor is undermining its own efforts to decarbonise the electricity grid because a major review of the east coast market is not considering whether to provide future government support to gas power generators.

The review, led by energy expert and former AGL economist Tim Nelson, was launched in November 2024 to examine how Australia’s electricity market rules could be changed to promote investment in firmed, renewable power generation and storage.
