A prominent group of Australian investors says Labor’s 43 per cent emissions target is only the first step ahead of a raft of necessary legislative and administrative changes to get the country on a trajectory to net zero by 2050.

Erwin Jackson, director of the Investor Group on Climate Change, warned that demands from groups such as the Greens that the emissions target bill include a compliance mechanism are misplaced, given the capital market consequences of failure.
