Clean energy rebound masks wind ‘disaster’

Clean energy capacity surged onto the grid last financial year at double the rate of the previous 12 months, but stalled wind-farm construction amid soaring costs has reared as a roadblock to the acceleration still needed to reach 2030 renewables goals.

About 4.4 gigawatts of capacity across 29 solar and wind farms and battery projects reached full output in the National Electricity Market in the year ended June 30, according to an annual scorecard from the Australian Energy Market Operator. That included 1.5 gigawatts in the June quarter alone.
