Sydney shrouded by smoke again

NSW will sit down to Christmas dinner amid a "state of emergency" after Premier Gladys Berejiklian granted week-long special powers to the Rural Fire Service amid rising heat and strong winds.
It is the second state of emergency declared since the start of the bushfire season. This season's first emergency declaration ran for seven days in mid-November amid "catastrophic" fire risk.
