Asian Development Bank urged to phase out coal

The Asian Development Bank should end coal-fired power plant financing to help lead the region's clean energy transition, an independent review into the multilateral lender has found.

While the Philippines-based ADB has refrained from investing in coal-fired power plants since stumping up cash for Pakistan’s Jamshoro coal plant in 2013, the evaluation found formally banning coal financing would bring the bank in line with other multilateral lenders.
