As Scott Morrison says, the start of the national vaccine rollout today marks the beginning of Australia’s “COVID comeback”. The remarkable medical science breakthroughs that have quickly led to safe and effective vaccines promise to restore a greater degree of normality to life and the economy.

Mass vaccination will allow the international border to be safely reopened later this year, and for migrants, foreign students and international tourists to return. The rollout promises to make medieval lockdowns and populist state border closures a thing of the past – a position backed on Sunday by Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young and Business Council of Australia chief executive Jennifer Westacott.
