The housing and migration debate misses one big failure

Unless major policy changes are made to housing supply, people will feel the strains of a larger population and not share in the economic benefits.

One of the first questions the then prime minister Kevin Rudd asked Ken Henry in 2007 was what population size the Treasury secretary thought was sustainable for Australia.

Henry uttered 15 million people. Rudd thought he said 50 million.
