With his domestic fleet largely grounded, Alan Joyce is pleading for the opening of most state borders – or least some national consistency in how rules are applied. Fat chance.

Despite the facade of national cabinet meeting again on Friday, premiers could not be clearer that they have no intention of heeding the requests of either the Prime Minister or Australia’s business leaders. It’s every state and territory government for itself.
