Pay disabled workers minimum wage by 2034: royal commission

The disability royal commission has undermined the Albanese government’s bid to rein in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with recommendations that taxpayers cover the costs of higher wages for disabled workers and improved salaries for support staff.

The royal commission’s final report, which runs for almost 4900 pages, also calls for an end to “segregated settings” such as special schools, group homes and workplaces that only employ people with a disability, saying they should be phased out over the coming 10 to 30 years.
