Chalmers talks up care work, downplays mining in new analysis

Jim Chalmers has released Treasury analysis downplaying the employment contribution of mining, highlighting the industry hires a relatively small share of workers compared to the “care” workforce.

Ahead of the Jobs and Skills Summit next week, Dr Chalmers published a Treasury paper showing Australia’s economy shifting away from manufacturing and heavily towards services, which now account for more than 80 per cent of jobs.
