The Sanjeev Gupta story and case is not a Whyalla story but a story of Australia. It is a story of the suboptimal and failing variety of capitalism dominant in Australia (“Scrounging inside faltering GFC empire”). It is a failure to understand Australian fundamentals of geography, geology, resources, location, history and potential. It is a failure to understand the dynamics of 21st-century change. It is a failure of capital, government and ideology. It is a failure that must be acknowledged and addressed.
