The country's $2.6 trillion retirement savings system will be put under the blow-torch this week when the Productivity Commission releases a landmark report into the performance of the sector from the members' perspective.

The sector has been on the gravy train for years, sucking in billions of dollars a year – and members have been paying billions of dollars a year in fees – thanks to the compulsory superannuation guarantee.
