Why we care more about 'Gogglebox' than Gallipoli

Latham Australians have lost interest in the Gallipoli story. Now young people are more likely to say "Why didn't they stay home and set up a business and make some money instead?"

When the English satirist William Rushton described Australians as "a stocky, brownish people, their eyes screwed up against the constant glare of TV sets" he was on to something.

Television is our great national pastime, so much so we now have programs such as Gogglebox, where people watch people watching TV.
