Outgoing Liberal Julia Banks has demanded the government get the children off Nauru.
Ms Banks, who has hinted she may contest her marginal seat of Chisholm as an independent, used the adjournment of Parliament on Thursday to make public the call she and others had been making behind the scenes for several weeks.
