Shanghai | Three decades on, Guo Jian is still haunted by bloody images of the night when he survived the massacre in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square.

His voice trembles as he remembers thinking he would die when a soldier hurled tear gas while he was cornered in an alleyway; when he recalls the  student who was shot in the back while helping him carry an injured man to safety; and when he sees once again the bodies piling up in a hospital hallway.
