Where’s the circuit breaker? Traders stare into abyss

It will require a lot of hope and optimism to go against a tide of panic and fear. Especially when the market feels the White House is content to let it burn.

Brokers and traders were already bracing for one of the most intense and active trading sessions in their careers as they dialled into Monday morning meetings. Volume records were broken on Friday night as Wall Street dived.

But was there any reason to buy? It required a lot of hope and optimism to go against a tide of panic, fear and pessimism.
