New ETF lets investors short ASX stocks, puts hedge funds on notice

A new exchange-traded fund that will actively identify and short ASX-listed companies is set to launch in the coming weeks, aiming to compete with Australia’s established hedge fund industry.

The fund, which was developed by VanEck and is set to launch on the ASX later this month under the ticker “ALFA”, will mark the exchange’s first systematic Australian equity long-short ETF.
