Miners, banks sink ASX ahead of Christmas

Australian shares dropped on Monday, just two days out from Christmas, as the major banks and miners weighed the market with modest losses on a muted day of trading.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index dipped 31.2 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 6785.1, with trading volumes well below normal.
