Earnings season surprises shake up ASX short sellers

Surprise rallies among some of the favourite targets for local short-sellers has forced hedge funds to rework their strategies, increasingly betting against some of the ASX’s biggest names in once-hot sectors such as energy.
Chief among the new targets for hedge funds are companies such as Woodside Energy, which drew more than $200 million in new short positions between July 31 and August 30.
