ASX adds 0.2pc after markets fell following RBA statement
The S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.2 per cent on Tuesday, ending the day in positive territory despite a turn in sentiment halfway through the session following the Reserve Bank of Australia’s monetary policy decision.
The blue-chip benchmark traded as much as 0.7 per cent higher shortly after lunchtime in Sydney but then fell sharply after the RBA shifted the language used to describe its policy outlook, injecting a sense of urgency into its anticipated rate hike path.
The technology sector was the day’s best performer, gaining 3.1 per cent, followed by energy, which edged 2.2 per cent higher alongside a rise in the oil price overnight.
Shares in Block jumped 6.2 per cent, outperforming all other blue chips, followed by Mineral Resources, which gained 5.7 per cent after announcing an increase to production to meet towering demand for lithium.
