Deregulation of the West Australian energy market is likely to kick-start the development of the Rough Range oilfield 46 years after its discovery excited the nation.

Junior oil explorer Empire Oil and Gas, which now has 100 per cent control of the Rough Range field, is about to embark on a fresh explor-ation effort which it hopes will lead to its commercial exploitation.
