The historic Gingin gasfield should be back in production later this year, adding a further source of supply as Western Australia deregulates its energy market and encourages new producers.

Gingin, about 100 kilometres north of Perth, is being redeveloped by Empire Oil and Gas NL, which plans to spud the Gingin 3 well in July, at a total cost of about $5 million.
