The Albanese government unveiled its long-awaited aged care reform package on Thursday after six months of negotiations with the opposition.

It is the most significant overhaul since the 2021 response to the aged care royal commission. Changes to residential aged care are due to kick in on July 1 next year, but anyone already in a home or on a waiting list will stay under the old regime.
