Concerns about sprawling poles and wires needed for renewable projects will boost support for Peter Dutton’s nuclear energy ambitions, say community leaders in electorates that would host reactors.

Banana Shire mayor Neville Ferrier said the policy was being cautiously received in Queensland’s Capricorn region, where locals were concerned about unsightly infrastructure needed to connect solar and wind assets to the grid.
