Bangkok | Thailand’s pro-democracy opposition parties set about trying to form a new government on Monday after Thais voted overwhelmingly to end nearly a decade of military rule, in a major shakeup of the political landscape.

The radical Move Forward, which wants to change a law restricting criticism of Thailand’s powerful monarchy, looked on course to be the biggest party following weekend national elections. The veteran opposition Pheu Thai party, linked to billionaire fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra was close behind, with almost all the vote counted.
