Cochlear deal sparks ACCC competition concerns

Cochlear’s proposed $170 million acquisition of a Danish hearing loss device maker is in the spotlight of the local competition watchdog, which believes it could substantially lessen competition in a “highly concentrated market”.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission announced on Thursday that it had “significant preliminary competition concerns” regarding Cochlear’s acquisition of Demant subsidiary Oticon Medical.
