Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has broken with convention to install Jacinta Allan from his Socialist Left Faction as the state’s deputy premier, as he consolidates power and vows to “finish the job” after the exit of four key cabinet ministers.

Treasurer Tim Pallas said he was a “strong supporter” of Jacinta Allan who is expected to be signed off by the caucus on Saturday and crowned the heir-apparent to Mr Andrews.
