Local fintech leaders say the federal government has a window of opportunity to be a global leader in laying the foundations for a cross-border consumer data right, which would unlock an international data economy.

Countries including Australia, the UK and Singapore have been implementing their own data portability schemes, but there has been little engagement between the nations in creating a framework that would allow consumers to easily share their data with companies or organisations in different geographies.
