When New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern stepped up on the evening of March 19 to announce that country was closing its borders that night, Virgin Australia CEO Paul Scurrah knew his airline was in serious trouble.
The night before, Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein had called to warn Scurrah he was about to impose 14 days of quarantine for domestic travellers entering the state.
