Commercial tenants struggling from the coronavirus economic downturn are set to be offered a combination of part deferrals and part waivers on their rents under a package being prepared for Friday’s meeting of the national cabinet.
The relief is expected to be provided through the lifting of land tax and council rates, while a landlords are also prepared to give some ground after a threat to pass laws that would to enable cash strapped tenants to break leases.
