Around the hallowed halls of Swiss watch fairs, the talk has long been of a return to more politely sized watches, something under 40mm that slips easily under a cuff, with an accent on refinement and mechanical sophistication.

Naturally such a fine piece would come mounted on an equally fine leather strap, no doubt crocodile, avoiding the long-popular metal bracelets. Or it could appear on the recently ubiquitous NATO strap that’s threaded its way on to so many watches, from Daniel Wellingtons to Planet Oceans.
