Ever wandered through a new place and felt perfectly at home? For many of my fellow Aussies travelling onboard Europe’s newest river cruiser, the Australian-owned, Australian-designed APT Ostara, that unexpected sense of kinship kicks in during our stroll through the south German town of Bamberg.
Despite its modest size – its population is just 70,000 – Bamberg has a rich swag of attractions, including a magnificently frescoed town hall improbably sitting in the middle of a river, a grand cathedral crowning its highest hill, and a series of adorable waterfront fishermen’s cottages.
