The lift doors open and a flurry of finery tumbles out. There are Bally loafers and Saint Laurent sunglasses, a Dior ‘Book’ tote that almost whacks me in the ribs, a smattering of diamonds, and a whiff of Baccarat Rouge. Behind the bouncy blowdries, I spot an impeccably cut charcoal suit. The cropped, asymmetrical blazer skims matching wrap-front trousers, and the wearer possesses the kind of effortlessness that others toil to achieve.
I soon discover, after whizzing up nine floors in the lift, that said suit hasn’t been plucked from an international runway; it’s the staff uniform at the new Aman Nai Lert Bangkok. Quietly luxurious but just dramatic enough, it echoes the interiors here in the hotel – gently curved, earth-toned, richly textured. The pieces were created by local fashion designer Polpat Asavaprapha’s Asana Group and nod to traditional Thai fishermen’s clothing, foreshadowing stories of cultural heritage that will unfold throughout the property.
