How this banker supersized his wine-bar dream

There’s a new club in town. 67 Pall Mall started in London, went to Switzerland and Singapore and is about to cut concrete in Melbourne.

Grant Ashton didn’t mean to open a wine club. In 2010, Barclays’ then European head of credit trading was simply looking for the solution to an awkward situation. “I had a wine problem,” the 55-year-old says – then hastens to clarify: “Not that sort of wine problem, but I had way too much wine.”

Wine lovers don’t want to pay through the nose for tipples they like, says Grant Ashton, founder and CEO of 67 Pall Mall.
