Death has been on my mind lately. My dad passed away in 2020 but we have only just buried him in [his native] China; it was the first chance we had. So I’ve been thinking about death.

In China, we don’t talk about death. It is a very serious topic, and it’s considered bad luck to talk about it. You prearrange your own funeral, you make sure it’s all organised for the people around you. Even when my dad was very sick, he didn’t want to bother people. I think of myself as a bridge between the two cultures. I embrace Australia of course, but I am Chinese, too.
