Mini skirts are back: Let women wear them in peace
Their length has long been questioned – but after two years of dressing from the waist up, why not let women call the shots?
On July 28, American reporter Ivana Hrynkiw Shatara was out on an assignment when she was told her skirt was too short.
Shatara, a journalist for AL.com, a statewide news organisation in Alabama, was at a prison to report on an execution when she claims a female guard told her that her skirt did not comply with the dress code. Exasperated, and surely keen to get on with her job, Shatara pulled down her skirt. This was not enough for the guard, who insisted, bizarrely, that Shatara wear a pair of fishing waders a photographer had brought along.
