There is an induction ceremony of sorts for new employees at Sarah & Sebastian, the demi-fine jewellery business that celebrates its 10th birthday this year. Each team member has a fine chain of gold soldered onto their wrist.
Using a centuries-old technique, one of the company’s jewellers takes a length of chain, measures it against the wearer’s wrist, lights a soldering iron and, with a flourish of flame, there it is: a sign that you’re part of one of Australia’s fastest-growing jewellery empires.
