A new Australian design store is always a cause for celebration. But when it’s the first flagship of one of the nation’s most esteemed creatives, I’m in the Uber before you can say “Henry Wilson”. For a tad over a decade, the Sydney-based designer has been plying a fine trade in cast bronze, aluminium and brass home hardware and accessories – door handles and wall brackets, bottle openers, bookends and the like.
His sculpted lighting and objects in sensuously veined and mottled Italian marble have shown up in tony homes around the world. At once robust and sensual, statuesque yet authentic, his aesthetic is instantly recognisable and, to a point, online sales sustained the business.
