First it was Ferrari insisting that its Purosangue model is not an SUV, merely a four-door car. Now McLaren is using the term “shared performance vehicle” for new models that don’t fit into its usual sports-car format.
The British company maintained a firm “no SUVs” policy under longtime CEO Mike Flewitt, but now with Flewitt gone and Ferrari, Lotus, Maserati and others having all given in to the trend, McLaren may have no choice.
