When talking interior innovations, Maria Mulder, head of colour, materials and finishes at Bentley Motors, is being coy by necessity. She’s signed an NDA with a supplier company which restricts what she can say. However, when being interviewed by Life & Leisure at Bentley’s new design studios in Crewe, northern England, Mulder insists she is investigating technology that will literally transform car interiors.
“Let’s say you get into your car and it’s a mid-blue interior. And then you think ‘actually, today I’d like it red’. There is tech emerging where you could [instantly] change it to red, and that’s all through pigment technology and science,” she says. “It’s at the forefront of some of the newest innovations in interiors [but] there is an intellectual property on it, so I can’t explain to you how it works.”
