The perils of secretly filming whirling dervishes

A transformative moment at a Sufist ceremony in Turkey nine years ago has led to a second collaboration with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.

A rare chance to see authentic whirling dervishes from Turkey will come around at an Australian Brandenburg Orchestra concert series next month.

For its Ottoman Baroque program, the period orchestra and the Brandenburg Choir will be joined by a party of about 20 from Turkey including players of traditional Ottoman instruments, several dervishes, their sheikh, and a direct descendant of the 13th-century cleric who invented the spinning form of worship.
