Stephanie Mackley vividly remembers reading the end of Miranda July’s novel All Fours shortly after it came out in 2024: She was lying on a beach towel in her front yard, next to the raised beds and chickens, turning the pages in a book she had, by her own admission, “gobbled up”.
“I remember finishing it and just sort of lying there,” she recalled, “and being like, ‘Oh, my God, what do I do now?’”
