Some of the brightest talents on show at this year’s Sydney Contemporary hail from Thirroul on the NSW south coast.

When art collector Dale McKenna bought her first work by Thirroul-based painter Frank Nowlan in 2014, she couldn’t point to Nowlan’s place of residence on a map.
“Five years later, I have 30 paintings by Thirroul artists,” McKenna says. “It’s become a small obsession of mine.”
