t’s a bright, clear August morning when we bundle into a car and set off from Alice Springs for a drive through the desert scrubland of Arrernte country. By the time we pull over to stretch our legs, about 50 kilometres out of town, the sun is baking the red ground beneath our feet. By noon, the temperature here will nudge 30 degrees.
